UAE, Spain set to discuss trade and investment


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The UAE-Spain Joint Economic Committee is holding its third session of meetings in Granada on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, and Luis de Guindos Jurado, Spanish Minister of Economy and Competitiveness.

Madrid, is hosting the preparatory meeting on Monday of senior officials, headed by Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Shehhi, Under-Secretary for Economic Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Economy, and Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce, Secretary of State for Trade at the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

The third session of the UAE-Spain Joint Economic Committee will discuss ways to boost economic and trade cooperation between the two countries with the participation of a delegation representing various economic sectors in the country.

A business forum will be held on the sidelines of the third meeting with the participation 200 senior officials and businessmen in Spain to highlight investment opportunities which will be provided by Expo 2020 in various economic and logistics sectors.

Al Mansouri said that the meeting will discuss the development of bilateral relations, especially in economic, trade and investment fields and the accomplishments made in light of the results of the two previous meetings.

He added that the UAE is the main trading partner of the Kingdom of Spain in the Gulf region, highlighting that the distinguished relations between the two countries were reflected in all other areas, especially economic and trade fields. He said that in light of these positive and fruitful relations, bilateral trade volume went up to 90 per cent from 2009 to 2014, and statistics showed that trade between the two countries amounted to one billion euros in 2009, reaching ‚¬1.9 billion by the end of 2014, including indicating a significant increase in economic and commercial transactions between the two countries.

Al Mansouri said that the UAE has an excellent relationship with Spain and that there are a number of agreements signed between the two countries, in particular the agreement signed on the prevention of double taxation.
