Pepper prices were firmer on Thursday on tight supply from the growing regions. Arrivals from Karnataka have also slowed down as more and more buyers were active.

The sellers in Kodagu and other regions have also raised their prices, market sources told BusinessLine. 500 GL was being offered at ₹525-530 a kg while 530 GL material from Gonikoppal in Karnataka was being sold at ₹535-540. 550 GL Kodagu pepper fetched ₹555.

Tamil Nadu dealers were buying aggressively from the High Ranges at terminal market prices. On the terminal market, 52 tonnes of pepper were traded and of this 32 tonnes were from Karnataka while 10 tonnes each were from the High Ranges and the plains.

Spot prices moved up by ₹500 a quintal to ₹55,000 (ungarbled) and ₹58,000 (garbled). On the IPSTA platform, April and May contracts too gained ₹500 to ₹59,000 and ₹59,007 respectively. Export prices were at $9,750 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,050 for the US.
